Late 1920s

This building ended up city owned by the early 2000s. When the city put it out to bid, UDI ended up outbidding several private developers for the property. They demolished all but the front facade so they could do this.

Which just makes me really question - why do we still need UDI in this area? This intersection doesn't need 'saving' at this point, and UDI has done enough damage to the surrounding neighborhood with cheap (I don't mean affordable) housing built in cul-de-sacs vs. street grids - when cul-de-sacs had already been long discredited as an urban design paradigm.

It certainly rubs me the wrong way that UDI is using grant funds to outbid private individuals for buildings so they can bring their really unfortunate sense of design into what should be a cool neighborohood center. Particularly given that they are the mayor's employer. In years of working on the area around Little Five Points, UDI has not made it any better. This silly design promises more of the same.
